      2. Visit three different websites to find a definition of this. Copy and paste them in and identify the one that explains it the best for your understanding.
The formation of a word from a sound associated with what is named (e.g. cuckoo, sizzle ).
  • the use of onomatopoeia for literary effect.
the formation of a word from a sound associated with what is named (e.g. cuckoo, sizzle ).
  1. the formation of a word, as cuckoo, meow, honk, or boom, by imitation of a sound made by or associated with its referent.
  2. a word so formed.
  3. The use of imitative and naturally suggestive words for rhetorical, dramatic, or poetic effect.
Onomatopoeia is defined as a word, which imitates the natural sounds of a thing. It creates a sound effect that mimics the thing described, making the description more expressive and interesting.
I find that the Blue writing (the third one) makes the most sense to me because it uses words that I can understand and it is short not long like the other ones.

3. Match the following sentences to the onomatopoeia that describes them.
A plate being dropped on the floor. SMASH
TINKLE
A balloon being burst. POP
BANG
A gun being shot. BANG
SMASH
Someone eating crisps. CRUNCH
GROWL
A light is switched on. CLICK
POP
A fierce dog. GROWL
CRUNCH
A small bell being rung. TWINKLE
CLICK

4. Put each of the above onomatopoeia into a descriptive sentence.
  • It was night time and I was getting the plates for dinner I took 4 then took just 1. It was only small but very heavy I was struggling to carry and then it just slipped SMASH the plate is broken.
  • “Mum it's my birthday it's my BIRTHDAY” Mum was just putting up the last balloon and think suddenly POP  the last birthday balloon popped.
  • “Dad can I go shooting with you I don't want to shoot just watch” “fine honey you can come but you will have to stay close to and listen you don't want to scare anything off” We were in the forest and we saw A deer I had to stay close to dad otherwise I could have gotten shot but luckily dad has a good aim and before I knew it BANG we had dinner sorted out.
  • The rugby was on and that means everyone comes over and on our street of someone comes over they bring food and I like crisps and they knew I love crisps so they bought some over. I got the packet opened it up and the smelled filled the room I got a crisp out of the packet and CRUNCH I had eaten the best most delicious crisp ever.
  • “ Hey Francesca, hey fan wake up it is 11.59pm we can make the midnight feast happen to come on I will turn the lights on” I walked over to the light switch and CLICK the room was full of brightness.
  • “Ok everyone into the car we will meet dad there remember he has to like it as well” we were on the way to the SPCA to chose a puppy. we got to the SPCA and there were so many animals Parrots, Dogs, Kittens and Cats there were so anymore as well. We walked past barking dogs quiet dogs and one dog that was very loud when we walked past him he would growl. “ GROWL” “ mum I don't want to get that one”
  • “ Ok everyone time to stop Everyone TWINKLE goes Mrs Houghton's little bell.

5. Find 3 more onomatopoeia and add them to this doc.

End of term Reflection

End of Term 2 2017 Reflection

1. What has been the funniest, awesome, coolest achievement that has happened this term?
One of the coolest things that happened was learning lots of different songs on my flute I have almost mastered a song and can play it without the cords in front of me. The other amazing achievement was the mandarin and fan dancing lessons. Tracy is an amazing teacher and sh helps so much especially when you don't get something the first time she will help you get it the second.
2. What progress have you made with your reading, writing, inquiry and maths learning this term? Provide evidence and examples of your thinking.
For reading, I think Have been reading more mature books and bigger books like Harry Potter. In my writing, I think I am using fo sophisticated words and my writing has definitely gotten neater. I am very pleased with all of my inquiries that I have presented and the ones I have not. For maths, I was very surprised that I was in stage 7 for maths because I never really thought I was that good.
3. What are your aspirations for term 3?
My first aspiration is to work eve harder in maths and try and get to a stage 8 level and be above the average year 7.
4. Who is one ‘new’ person you would like to sit next to next term?
Was probably a boy out of Oscar, Sameer or someone that I have already sat next to and that is Savannah.
5. What is your goal for home-learning next term?
To do all of them at a very high standard and to hand them in before it is supposed t be in.
6. What can your teacher do to support your progress and learning in term 3?
Maybe my teacher could give me math homework instead of homework that isn't relevant to school subjects.
